The cover picture to this album was painted in 1952 by Richard Ernst Eurich (14 March 1903 – 6 June 1992). As a small boy in the last century I would visit Hove Art Gallery on school outings and later on my own. Many of the works hanging there had little or no effect on me, but this picture, 'The Mummers' I found instantly mesmerising; something to do with make-believe and ordinariness, which mirrored my childhood perfectly. Over the years I would return to peer into the picture many times.

On a recent visit something very strange happened indeed. Whereas I always looked into the picture, staring intently at the characters and backdrop, I suddenly focused on the reflection of myself in the glass casement of the painting. Seeing my reflection from the two-dimensional surface, my image seemingly seemed to be behind the mirror of the glass... and at that moment the looking glass also became an hour glass as it became apparent my many appearances had been there all along, apparently...
